After repurposing my first two pieces, Sabrina and Shawn, I decided to make a new "sister set." Using two small square canvases with a bit of texture, I got out my paint and created a gold base for each. Without an idea in mind, I started to use colors that resonated with me- black, white, pink, brown, silver, and of course, gold. I wanted to create a set to reflect my own style, but each with its own personality.

While putting my own twist on an aesthetic that reminded me of both Upper West Side days and one of my favorite designers, embodying both a feminine softness with darker, more complex layers. Even while back in Michigan, the piece captured the same feelings I had while walking through Riverside Park on a sunny day.

When Kate Spade passed away in June 2018, I received text messages from friends all over the country. I was shocked how many people knew how much I loved her. When I learned that she masked her depression behind bright colors and beauty, I knew right then I wanted to create a brand that highlighted our stories.

I have struggled with anxiety, depression, and addiction since I was in my 20s- and it has been a long journey of stops and starts. Although I have been guilty of hiding behind oversized sunglasses and red lipstick, I quickly learned that struggle brings strength. Life is far too short to wear a mask, and the bolder we are about our own journey, the more people we can help.

Kate's partner is named Henri, another ode to another late designer who influenced my own style and creations. Every style tells a story- and it's never to late to start a new one.
